HiKorea, the online administration service dedicated to foreigners, allows you to manage documents online and schedule mandatory appointments for immigration visits. Same-day appointments are not possible. To extend your stay, appointments can be made up to 4 months before your visa expires.
Duration of stay
- Short-term stay: 90 days or less
- Long-term stay: 91 days or more
- Permanent residence: No duration limit

Programs for new arrivals
The Korean government offers several programs to help foreigners adapt to life in Korea. Information and registration can be found on the Immigration and Social Integration Network of the Ministry of Justice (www.socinet.go.kr).
- First Period Adaptation Program
Public: Foreigners legally staying in Korea for a long-term stay
Duration: 2 to 3 hours - Korea Immigration & Integration Program (KIIP)
Public: Immigrants and foreigners wishing to settle in Korea
Content: Korean language and culture (15h of initiation, 100h per level)
Understanding Korean society (up to level 5, 70h of in-depth studies)
Other information
Extension of stay: Applications must be made up to 4 months before visa expiration.
Change of residency status: You must obtain authorization for any new activity under a different residency status.
Granting of residency status: For foreigners who lost their Korean nationality or were born in Korea, this must be requested within 30 days of the event.
